Man with the Turban

I just got a picture from my friend, Shawn, who’s spending the summer in LA.  He sent me this picture of Turban man, this guy who Jennifer and I saw 15 years ago on the Venice boardwalk, rollerskating while playing his guitar and singing!  Very artistic.  (on a side note, I also remember from that same visit a guy walking his ‘girlfriend’ on a leash, both dressed in black and silver with chains and stuff all over them… it was truly bizarre!) So Shawn tells me that he’s out of state at a special event  and is watching the tv in his hotel room, then he sees this same guy on a commercial!  I just think that’s odd, and kind of weird.  Some guy that’s taken a strange road to spend his life on, is known all over the place!  Then there’s me, who would probably like to be known all over the place, but am not.  In fact, my neighbors don’t even know me.  Maybe I should put on some skates and throw a turban on my head and play my guitar as I mingle around the block.  ….

As I’m reflecting on what we’ve accomplished in the first six months here in SLC… I can’t think of a lot of earth shattering things.  We’ve met a ton of great people, had some good spiritual experiences… yet we haven’t kicked off any campus ministry yet.  At times I get frustrated, but really, it’s a time to prepare ourselves for what God is preparing us for… who knows exactly what that is.  What is cool though is we’re meeting more and more people lately that are tied into the universities around here – one way or another… almost daily.  So, who knows, maybe we’re about to break some ground here?  What I know is I’ve got to pray more and keep praying daily, hourly….
