Hi, my name is Matt and I’m one in a million! But if you want to be my friend, there are a few things you should know. I pace a lot, especially when talking on the phone. Most people get annoyed when I pace, but no friendships have ended because of it . . . at least none I’m aware of. I have lots more annoying habits that I’m mostly oblivious towards. But, other than my sister, others don’t seem to notice them much either. Or I just don’t notice them noticing, which in itself would probably be the most annoying. By the way, there may a hint of a residual self-consciousness leftover from junior high, and sometimes I over-analyze things.
Utah is a new and exciting place for me. I moved 11 times in my first 11 years and have lived in 5 different states including Illinois, Missouri, Washington, and Nebraska. Wait! That’s only four? Ah, but I was conceived (and spent some of my womb-time) in Montana (I guess we know were I stand on abortion now don’t we?). Other than the my mother’s womb, I’ve called many an interesting place “home.” I’ve lived in the back of a bait shop, in the band room of an old school building, an 18-room motel, and even a van down by the river, not to mention China.
By the way, you may notice, and don’t worry, I’m neither mutant nor alien nor mutant alien or alien mutant. I just have Heterochromia. One out of every million people have Heterochromia which is a big word for having two eyes of different color. My left eye is blue and the right one is hazel. See! I told you I was one-in-a-million. Me and Kate Bosworth. She’s pretty.
Brett Ricley – (Impact Recruit)
I am passionate first and foremost about God. I believe that it is my responsibility as a Christ follower to make the Kingdom of God tangible to the world we live in. My wonderful wife Nicole and I were married June 7, 2008 and I consider her my best friend. She is definitely the most valuable asset to me and ministry. She is everything I’m not and I am thankful to God for bringing her into my life. We have one awesome son, Jonathan, who was born December 30, 2010. Nicole and I met while at college at Nebraska Christian College in Omaha, NE. We spent two and a half years in full time local church ministry before the Lord laid the burden and calling of campus ministry in Salt Lake City on our hearts. We both are excited to see the Kingdom of God come to Salt Lake City and the world.
In my spare time, I enjoy movies, being with my wife and son, having people in our home eating or just hanging out. I personally enjoy writing music with friends, playing guitar, bass or drums. I also enjoy reading as much as I can. Some of my top books would be: Crazy Love by Francis Chan, Why Revival Tarries by Leonard Ravenhill, The Tangible Kingdom by Hugh Halter and My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers.
Kyrah Lewis- (Impact Volunteer)
Born and raised in the Midwest (I usually claim to be from Iowa but I also spent many years in Nebraska), Kyrah Lewis spent much of her short childhood singing or running away from imaginary villains pretending to be dressed, of course, in long, beautiful and terribly impractical dresses. The daughters of a preacher man and a wonderfully hard working mother Kyrah and her two younger sisters, Amanda and Hannah, have been blessed to grow up in a great family.
I am a student at the University of Utah, still working on an undergraduate degree in human development. School and a part time job as a nanny for a beautiful family keep me busy during the week, and I am very excited to be a part of what God is doing with Impact.
I have some of the best friends any girl could ever ask for, and since moving to Salt Lake City on August 20th I have been able to build even more wonderful friendships. Learning who people are and building relationships have been among my favorite things to do since moving to Utah, another new favorite pastime is hiking into the mountains (or the foothills, but one raised in the flatlands they are still mountains) to catch glimpses of God’s beauty.
I still sing often, I love to curl up in a soft, warm blanket to read, and one of my favorite sounds is that of crunchy footsteps. Whether it is gravel, fallen leaves, or snow I will go out of my way to crunch as I walk.
